I recently found this great YouTube channel called “Therapy in a Nutshell” and it’s hosted by an actual licensed therapist. Most of her advice is fantastic.

This one I watched earlier today was so powerful. It was about talking to yourself like you’d talk to your friend going through the same thing.

 I’ve heard it before. I liked how she walked through exactly how to do it. The premise is that if a friend messes up, you don’t immediately start telling them how stupid they are for making that mistake, which is what we tend to do to ourselves.

You talk to them, you remind them that everyone makes mistakes. Maybe you help them come up with ways to make things right.

So next time you find yourself talking smack to yourself, stop and instead, think about what you would say to a friend in the same situation.
