When my grandpa passed away a few years ago, my grandma asked me to write a poem for his funeral. It was difficult to write a poem under those circumstances, but I did. A couple of years later, I got an idea for a poem for my grandma, so I went ahead and wrote it down then, hoping it would be a long, long time before I had to use it. It was a while, but not long enough.
Here it is:
Grandmama’s Mountain
I want to climb Grandmama’s mountain,
And remember the good old days.
I want to climb Grandmama’s mountain,
And remember how we used to play.
I want to climb Grandmama’s mountain,
Just one more time, for old time’s sake,
I want to climb Grandmama’s mountain,
No matter how long it takes.
As children we spent hours there,
Think of all the memories we’ve shared,
Remember Grandmama’s mountain,
When we miss her so much.
Let’s go climb Grandmama’s mountain,
And say our last good-byes.
Sit there and share our memories,
And talk about days gone by.
I want to climb Grandmama’s mountain.
Just one more time.
