There are a few things I have noticed that really affect my mental health if I am not doing them.
They are exercise/movement, writing, and reading. Doing any of the three things helps, but doing all three helps more than anything to keep me on an even keel.
This made me realize why 2022 may have been such a challenge. Early in the year, I got COVID, then started having issues with my heels and let myself fall out of the habit of exercising.
In 2021, I did a “read 21 for 21” challenge and read everyday-usually in the morning right after I exercised. So…that habit suffered in 2022 as well.
On top of all that, I stopped writing regularly, too.
I struggled a lot last year. Stress, lack of exercise, and emotional eating had my blood sugar out of control.
What kind of things do you do that help your mental health in a positive way?

I think prayer and meditation are key for me. I have to make sure I’m in the Word of God every day and that I think on God’s word. I also notice what I eat affects it enormously. Too much sugar or starchy food makes me feel more anxious the next day. The hard part is, at the moment, those foods feel calming or like a crutch, but then over time, it makes me feel awful. Definitely, time outside helps and movement as well.
