Dating in my 50’s: Unpacking from the first date (I’ve started calling it the “date-ish”)

I promised there was more to tell about the first date-ish I went on a few weeks ago.

I already mentioned the guy making the comment that I was still in love with my husband.

One of the other things he said to me was that he wanted to date someone “witty or funny” and he didn’t think I was either.

I did not respond to that at the time, but it has been rattling around in my head.

For the record, I think I am freaking hilarious. I have a sharp, sarcastic sense of humor and I love to laugh at the ridiculous.

However, it does take a while for that side of me to feel comfortable enough to emerge. Usually as I am getting to know people, I am a little quieter (hard to believe for those that know me, but it’s true).

I have to feel very comfortable before I let that side of me come out. But I guess he will never get to meet that side of me. His loss.

All of that aside, who the heck says that to someone? Especially on a first date-ish? I mean really!

Sounds like an interview, not a social situation! Doesn’t appear the goal is to get acquainted with each other, but to see if you “measure up”. And would hope you will always be in love with your husband. Think that is why you could have another healthy relationship.

What. He wanted a stand up comic? In your first installment you mentioned that he asked about still having Toms pictures out. I didn’t say anything at the time, but after the second installment I think you dodged a bullet.

This guy is a dud! Your description has been interesting to read though!
